With this publication, IBGE, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, presents information obtained from the Survey of Basic Municipal Information conducted in 2004 in city halls of Brazilian municipalities, concerning sports management.

The present data are grouped by population size of municipalities, Major Regions, and Federation Units, and comprise the main thematic axes of the survey, such as: personnel employed in the sports activity; municipal councils; municipal legislation; public resources devoted to sports and leisure; covenants or other kinds of forged partnership; actions, projects and programs aimed at sports; among other characteristics related to municipal sports activity performed under direct responsibility and/or participation by city hall. The analytical texts, illustrated with graphs, highlight the key aspects of each of these themes.
